Meet Ben Hughes
An electrician, husband, and practical community voice for Ward 3.
My Story
Barrie has always been part of my story.
I grew up in Midhurst and moved to Barrie in 2018, but Barrie has always been a part of my life—from sports and school to friends and family. I played in the Barrie Minor Hockey Association before leaving to play junior hockey. Those years taught me the importance of teamwork, commitment, and showing up for the people around you.
Today, my wife and I are building our life in Barrie as our family grows. I’m proud to call this city home and to put down roots in a community that has given me so much.
I also work as an electrician in Barrie. It is practical, hands-on work that requires careful planning, problem-solving, accountability, and a commitment to doing things properly. Those same values shape how I approach public service and how I believe our municipal government should work.
Why I’m Running
Municipal government should focus on the fundamentals.
I believe municipal government works best when it focuses on responsible decisions, strong infrastructure, affordability, and creating an environment where local people and businesses can succeed.
I want Barrie to be a community that takes care of what it has, plans responsibly for the future, supports entrepreneurship, and respects the taxpayers who fund our city.
