Platform Priority

Affordability

Affordability is essential to the stability, safety and well-being of our community.

My Position

What I Believe

When housing, property taxes and everyday necessities become increasingly difficult to afford, the effects are felt throughout the city. Financial pressure can contribute to housing insecurity, homelessness, crime and greater demand on community services. These are complex challenges that require thoughtful planning, cooperation and a willingness to address their underlying causes.

Barrie should remain a place where working families, seniors and young people can afford to build a life. As we welcome new residents, we must place equal importance on the people who already live here. I will support responsible spending, careful taxation and practical decisions that help make life in Barrie more attainable.

I believe property taxes are already high enough. Before asking residents for more, City Hall should examine priorities, efficiencies, existing spending and existing revenues. Higher taxes should not be the automatic response when better use of current resources may be possible.

Affordability also depends on a strong local economy. Attracting and retaining businesses, employers, investment and good jobs can strengthen household stability and broaden Barrie’s economic and municipal tax base alongside population growth.
