I believe Barrie’s future planning should include the people who already live here. Long-term residents and established neighbourhoods must not become an afterthought as new areas are developed.
Plan for the People Already Here
Many residents have spent decades raising families, supporting local businesses and contributing to Barrie. Their experience and needs should continue to have an important place in municipal decisions.
Maintain What Barrie Already Has
I believe existing roads, parks, sidewalks, water and stormwater infrastructure, public spaces and other municipal assets require maintenance and investment. Building new infrastructure should not mean neglecting what current taxpayers already rely on.
Established Neighbourhoods Still Matter
I believe established communities should continue to receive attention as the city grows. Planning should identify older infrastructure and predictable problems before they become more difficult and expensive to address.
Balance Current and Future Needs
To me, good stewardship means balancing the needs of current and future residents. Decisions made today should respect the community Barrie has built while leaving the city prepared for the people who come after us.
I believe Barrie can prepare for the future without forgetting the residents and neighbourhoods that shaped the city.
